Beaumont, TX – Thursday evening, August 15th, representatives with the Texas Department of Transportation-Beaumont District met with residents that have been impacted by the closure of the FM 787 bridge at the Trinity River in Liberty County.
District Engineer, Martin Gonzalez, P.E., shared an update with the community.
While TxDOT was in the process of awarding a contract to repair the west side of the bridge, it was discovered there were also damages to the east side. TxDOT canceled the contract and is currently in the process of putting together one contract to make repairs to both sides of FM 787.
A contract will be awarded in the coming weeks to make the necessary repairs. Weather permitting, repairs to the current bridge approaches should take approximately four months.
TxDOT has begun the process of developing a project to realign FM 787 at a new location along the Trinity River. It will go out for bids early as 2028 with construction possibly being complete by 2030 or 2031.
We appreciate the community’s patience during this process, as the safety of the traveling public is of the utmost importance to TxDOT.
TxDOT is committed to providing updates on FM 787 and will soon begin sending out a monthly newsletter with updates regarding the temporary repairs of the roadway. In addition, TxDOT is actively working on producing a project page for the new alignment.
