Beaumont, TX – 10/22/2024 – RISE Center for Independent Living, headquartered in Beaumont, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a competitive grant from the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) for accessible transportation services. This funding will enable RISE to provide essential transportation services at no cost to qualifying veterans, surviving spouses, and dependents in Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, and Tyler counties.
The grant from TVC underscores a commitment to improving veterans' and their families' access to earned healthcare. RISE’s transportation services will ensure eligible veterans receive timely access to vital medical appointments and services, fostering improved health outcomes and overall well-being. Veterans are asked to contact RISE Center and provide a copy of their DD-214, valid ID, and Texas residence status to begin the process.
Transportation barriers can significantly impact individuals with disabilities, and our veteran population faces similar challenges. “Here at RISE, we see the effects that transportation barriers have on persons with disabilities, and our veteran population is no different,” says Seth Wells, Executive Director of RISE. “Many veterans, especially those in our most rural areas, miss essential VA or private medical appointments due to the lack of accessible, low-cost transportation services across Southeast Texas. We've already made an impact with our current transportation program, and these funds will extend our ability to expand that positive impact to counties outside of our usual service area,” Wells says.
