Two vehicle accident in the Trout Creek area sends two to local hospitals

Trout Creek, TX - Wednesday evening around 8:20 pm, Trout Creek First Responders and Trout Creek Fire Department, as well as DPS were called out to Hwy 87 about a mile North of Trout Creek near Cr 4650 for a two-vehicle accident.
The Texas Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 8:20 p.m., a 2013 Jeep Wrangler was traveling north and slowed down to allow southbound traffic to clear, to make a left turn into a private drive. It is reported that the driver of a 2017 Honda SUV was also traveling north and struck the rear of the Jeep. After impact, the Honda traveled into the west ditch and struck a barbed wire fence and T-posts."
The driver of the Jeep, identified as 48-year-old Connie Merka of Kirbyville, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda, identified as 32-year-old David Meyers of Port Arthur, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
