Tropical update, weekend forecast, and new storm brewing

NWS Lake Charles

Hurricane Helene is now a very dangerous Category 3 Major Hurricane with sustained winds of 120 MPH. Helene is expected to at least maintain this intensity until landfall in the Big Bend of Florida later this evening.

For us, though... a cold front moved through last night bringing about breezy north winds, and cooler and drier conditions. Expect seasonable temperatures, sunny skies and low humidity to prevail through the weekend.

Looking to next week: The National Hurricane Center has outlined an area in the western Caribbean which they'll be monitoring for development in the next 7 days. It currently has a 0% chance of developing in the next 48 hours, 20% in the next 7 days.
