Newton Independent School District Superintendent Michelle Barrow has recently graduated from Dallas Baptist University earning a Doctorates Degree in Education.
NCD spoke with Barrow recently regarding her degree and her time at Newton ISD. Barrow said that she began teaching there back in 2000 and has taught 1st, 6th, and 7th grades. She also served as Elementary Principal, High School Principal, Assistant Principal, Curriculum Director, and District Coordinator of School Improvement. All totaled, Barrow served 24 years on top of her time as a student at NISD.
45-year-old Barrow and her husband, Bric have three sons whom they've raised in the school district. Zane who is currently a student at SFA, Chett, and Trace who are still enrolled in NISD.
Barrow added that she had blended classes at Dallas Baptist University, which meant that she had to attend both online and in-person classes. She said that she had to make 25 trips to Dallas alone, and racked up 13,000 miles driving back and forth from Dallas, to Austin, to Washington DC, and home during her studies at DBU!

Dr. Barrow has issued the following statement of thanks and the importance of furthering one's education.
"I'd like to give special thanks to the Newton ISD Board of Trustees for allowing the research to be conducted within the school district, the teachers and principals who participated in the study, and my family and office staff for their encouragement and prayers throughout the doctoral process.
A note to our staff and students: Never stop learning. You can always learn something new and further your education. It takes perseverance and endurance, but it can be done. Your education is the one thing you can earn that will never be taken away."
Dr. Barrow received her doctoral degree surrounded by family including her husband, Bric, and sons, Zane, Chett, and Trace.
Once again, congratulations, Dr. Michelle Barrow. You have made our school district and community very proud.
