Weekly Sheriff’s Report
Released by: Sheriff Colton Havard
March 24th, 2025
We received several calls on County Road 4018 regarding individuals trying to move an old mobile home with a tractor. Long story short, as they were moving the mobile home, the wheels fell off, blocking the county road. They eventually got it moved out of the roadway. You can’t make this stuff up.
You can tell the weather has warmed up, as we have responded to multiple family disturbances this week, day and night. Most of these incidents are influenced by alcohol and drugs. Additionally, there have been several vehicle accidents around the county this week that are currently being investigated by DPS.
I am currently in Austin at the State Capitol with the Sheriff’s Association of Texas, attending the 89th Legislative Session. Several bills affecting Newton County are being discussed.
We answered 66 calls for service last week and booked 6 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 17 inmates being housed in the following jails: 4 in Jasper, 6 in Beauregard Parish, and 7 in Newton.
Thought for the week: You have a choice in this life – you can either be right or be happy.
