Newton County Sheriff's Report

Weekly Sheriff’s Report

By Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard

March 17th, 2025

We started our inmate work program last week at the Sheriff’s Office. Trustees spent a day last week in Deweyville mowing the Courthouse Annex along with the Senior Center. These guys are low-level offenders and are adequately supervised. This is a great opportunity for these inmates to give back to the community and learn how to be productive members of society when they are released to enter the workforce. They were very grateful for the opportunity.

We got a call on Sunday of a woman walking down County Road 4101 yelling at everyone. We were unable to locate her. I guess she was upset with someone.

Our volunteer firemen had a busy week responding to multiple fires across the county. Low humidity, wind, and fire don’t go well together.

We responded to 78 calls for the week and booked in 7 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We have 25 individuals in the following jails: 13 in Newton, 6 in Beauregard Parish and 6 in Jasper.

Thought for the week: Success isn’t about how much money you make; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.
