Weekly Sheriff’s Report
Released by: Sheriff Colton Havard
March 3rd, 2025
Last Tuesday, we conducted a joint operation with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI in the northern part of the county. During the operation, the suspect fled from a State Trooper. Long story short, he abandoned the vehicle, and we believe he had someone come pick him up. He turned himself in the next day and is currently in jail. We recovered a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine and U.S. Currency. This operation was a great example of teamwork, and we appreciate all the agencies involved.
This week, we have responded to several scam calls where individuals provide their credit card information to someone in a different state or country. These cases are very difficult to prove, as they often involve parties located in different countries. Please DO NOT give out any personal information to anyone over the phone.
We have answered 64 calls for service this week and booked 5 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 20 inmates in the following jails: 7 in Beauregard Parish, 3 in Jasper and 10 in the Newton County Jail.
Be sure to reach out if we can help.
Thought for the week: You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.
