Weekly Sheriff’s Report
Released by: Sheriff Colton Havard
January 21, 2025
I hope you all had a good week and have prepared for the snow.
It’s been a busy week at the Sheriff’s Office as we have been preparing for the severe weather event. Last Friday evening, we responded to Hwy 63 East in reference to several people breaking into travel trailers and a house. The thieves were able to get away, but we have them identified and will be seeing them soon. It’s sad when a man works for his things and then has to worry about his property getting stolen while he is at work.
Deputies have been busy serving arrest warrants around the county. I will soon be releasing the names of wanted individuals. If your name is on the upcoming list, you can come turn yourself into the Newton County Sheriff’s Office to save yourself the embarrassment of being arrested at your home or place of employment.
I ask each of you to keep the volunteer fire departments and first responders in your thoughts and prayers as they will be working long hours in this snowstorm.
We currently have 11 inmates in Newton, 4 in Jasper and 6 in Beauregard Parish. Stay safe and warm, and until next week; The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
