Weekly Sheriff’s Report

November 12, 2024

Homicide INVESTIGATION: On November 10, 2024, at approximately 0355 hours, NCSO Dispatchers received a call regarding an unknown male that had been shot at the Elam Event Center location on U.S. Hwy 190 East in Newton (unincorporated city limits).


Deputies arrived on the scene at 0413 hours to investigate. The victim was accessed at the scene by Allegiance EMS personnel and transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper.


The victim was pronounced dead at 0454 hours. This is an active Homicide Investigation, and no suspects are in custody at this time. We are still actively working the crime scene, gathering information and talking to witnesses.

The name of the victim has not been released due to current notification being made to the family. We will update this release as new information becomes available.


Calls To Service (November 4, 2024, to November 10, 2024):  The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 52 calls to service.


Jail Population:   We currently have 15 inmates in the following jails;

10 housed in Newton, 2 housed in Beauregard, and 3 housed in Jasper.


Jail Transports: NCSO had 4 jail transports:

1 from Beauregard to NCSO, 1 from NCSO to JCSO, 1 from NCSO to Beauregard, 1 from NCSO to Glossbrenner Unit.
