Calls To Service (May 6, 2024, to May 12, 2024): The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 67 calls to service.
Jail Transports: NCSO had 6 jail transports;
2 from NCSO to JCSO, 2 from NCSO to Beauregard, 2 from NCSO to Mental Health facilities.
Jail Population: We currently have 29 inmates in the following jails;
13 housed in Newton, 7 housed in Beauregard, and 9 housed in Jasper.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE NEEDED/SHOTS FIRED:
On May 12, 2024, at 0145 hours NCSO Dispatcher received a call that an individual had been shot. Preliminary investigation indicates that the incident took place in the 900 Block of CR 4205 in Deweyville. It was reported that two male individuals were fighting at that location when the suspect shot the victim in the stomach. The victim was taken to Deweyville VFD to meet an ambulance and then transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for medical treatment. We were told that the victim’s wound did not appear to be life threatening. The suspect was on the scene and taken into custody. This is an active investigation, and updates will be provided as they become available.
