Newton County received a grant will help protect the community from wildfires

So grateful for all the hard work put forth to secure this grant for the citizens of Newton County.

A special thank you to TRAYLOR & ASSOCIATES

More about the grant and the services it will bring to the county:

A community wildfire protection plan (CWPP) is a means of bringing local solutions to wildland fire management. Foresters estimate that less than 10 percent of the communities at risk from wildfire have CWPPs in place.

Community Wildfire Protection Plans are a collaborative approach to wildland fire protection and mitigation. A CWPP is used to identify high-risk areas – where homes and businesses meet surrounding forests and fields. The plan also serves as an opportunity to target potential fuels reduction projects, training needs and prevention strategies.

When developing a CWPP, Coordinators along with community leaders work to:

Identify projects to reduce ignition sources around structures

Address treatment of structural ignitability

Identify local capacity building and training needs

Promote wildfire awareness programs
