Press Release - Wanted Suspect, Andrew Lee Ancell (w/m, DOB 5/1/85, 5 ft 7, 140 pounds)

UPDATE: Andrew Lee Ancell had active warrants from 4 Counties before he arrived in our area. He now is wanted by Newton County and has been charged with the following offenses for breaking into a Deer Camp near Hwy 255 and CR 1090 on July 28, 2023,¬: “5 Counts of Burglary of a Building and 1 Count of Felony Theft.”
We have received reports that an individual fitting Ancell’s description was seen in the Mayflower and Wiergate areas. A search of deer camps and other areas of concern has been conducted in Wiergate and Mayflower with negative results. On August 17, 2023, around 1800 hours Deputies were searching an area in Mayflower when they were dispatched to a burglary alarm call on CR 1102 in Mayflower. We were told by the alarm company that it was a false alarm. After following up with the owner who was not at home when the alarm was activated, we discovered someone had broken a window.

SYNOPSIS: July 26, 2023, we were notified by Sabine County Sheriff’s Office that a wanted person, Andrew Lee Ancell a white male, DOB 5/1/85, 5 ft 7 and 140 pounds was last seen walking south on Hwy 87 South near the Sabine/Newton County Line. Deputies were dispatched to investigate. When they arrived in the vicinity, they observed a male fitting the description near The Scraping Valley Lodge.
We searched for this suspect into the night and called in a helicopter with fleer capabilities with negative results.
The suspect was still at large on foot and is believed to be around Highway 255 W. and Highway 87 N.
He is on foot, no shirt, animal and bug bites and abrasions on upper body. Should be extremely weathered at this point. If you see him, please do not approach, please call the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at 409-379-3636 for assistance.
