Judge Delinda Gibbs-Walker named BBB 2024 Distinguished Woman of Southeast Texas

District Judge 1-A Delinda Gibbs-Walker has just been named the BBB 2024 Distinguished Woman of Southeast Texas!

Having served in the capacity of District Judge since January 1, 2015, Gibbs-Walker was honored during the 5th Annual BBB Professional Women's Conference for her outstanding role as not only a Judge, but also a woman, mother, and as a Christian.

Unfortunately, Gibbs-Walker had a prior commitment and was unable to attend the ceremony, but Senior Regional Field Director to Congressman Brian Babin and personal friend, Lanie Brown accepted the award for her.

In a prepared speech, Brown read;

"I’m so very grateful for this award. It truly is a very bright light in a what has been a dark journey over the past year.

Approximately 10 months ago I was diagnosed with a very dangerous and aggressive form of cancer. I was told initially that I would probably not see my birthday. My birthday was five months ago. God intervened and He was not through with me. I have definitely gone through a lot of medical treatment and continue to be blessed to have treatment available to me. But as of my last appointment, the doctor has declared that there is no evidence of disease. The journey has been long and the valley deep, but just as God has declared in His word, I have not been forsaken or left begging for bread. He has provided. I have have literal hundreds of people praying for me and for that I am so grateful.

I absolutely love the children’s program at my church where I am the program coordinator. I not only direct the program but teach the 4th and 5th grade. I attend Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jasper Tx. Last month I was blessed to resume those responsibilities.

I also teach a Tx history co-op on Friday evenings. I teach approximately 6 homeschooled children history. I take them on history exploration trips around Texas and try to instill in them the love of our state and the love of history while teaching them that God has blessed this great state and our nation.

I resumed full duties with my job beginning in March of this year, which was also a miracle.  My biggest problem for some time was my voice. This disease took one of my vocal cords, which caused my voice to be little more than a whisper. In May I had surgery to repair that. While I may not be able to sing in the choir at church like I did before, last night I was able to lead the kiddos in some of their songs. It was amazing.

I am today thankful for so many things. I’ve learned a ton over the past several months. One of which is to never take a day, an occasion, nor a person for granted. Lean hard into God and His mercy, and exactly what it means to pray without ceasing.

Thank you to EVERYONE who had and has anything to do with this organization and this award. I regret not being able to be there. We have had a death in my husband’s family that was unexpected.

What an honor and frankly a God wink to me. ❤️"

The event was held on Thursday, September 12th and was hosted by the BBB Education Foundation and presenting sponsor, Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

From all of us here at ETB, congratulations Delinda! Thank you for all that you do!
