Funeral services for Lora Mae Hamilton Cobb Perry were Saturday September 16, 2023, at her home church, First Baptist Church in Newton, Texas with burial at Newton Cemetery. Lora Mae passed peacefully on September 12, 2023, at Brighton Senior Living at Regency Village in Webster, Texas.
In true Lora Mae fashion, First Baptist Church was packed with family and friends who were celebrating a wonderful life of love and compassion, a life well lived!! Lora Mae was a force of nature, always loving, kind, laughing and often an instigator of comic relief for all those around her. She could find the humor in everything and was not discreet in her storytelling which led to much laughter and banter among friends and family. Lora Mae loved hopping in a car for a road trip with just about anyone who called and said, “Let’s Go!”, she went with tremendous laughter all the way. What a hoot she was. Lora Mae will be dearly missed by all those who knew her but especially her dear family that she loved beyond measure.
Lora Moe was born in Newton County on April 1, 1931, in Newton, Texas to Thomas and Mattie Sue Woods Hamilton. She attended Pine Grove Elementary School where one of her teachers tied her to a chair because she would not sit still. In High School, she played basketball, enjoyed dancing with friends and sat near Mary Elizabeth Gray Fortenberry, those two together, you can imagine the constant chatter and thorn in the teacher’s side. She met the love of her life, Alvin Wilford Cobb through his younger brother, Novell Cobb Cheatwood.
