Newton Volunteer Fire Department was called out to 2615 Hwy 87 North at 4 am this morning to battle three structure fires. All three structures belonged to Mary Jean.
Upon arrival, the department discovered that all three were already fully involved in flames and would be a complete loss.
Bon Weir, Burkeville, and Trout Creek Fire Departments assisted in battling the fires, and Newton County Sheriff's Department investigated.
A Newton VFD representative said that the owner was not living in the residence and none of the buildings had electricity at the time of the fire. Because of this, the fires have been deemed arson.
