At around 12:50 pm Monday afternoon Newton, Burkeville, and Bon Wier Volunteer Fire Departments as well as The Texas Forest Service were called out to a camp house just off Highway 87 South of Newton owned by Keith Crane of Livingston.

The cause of the blaze was thought to be a wood pile from the previous week. The high winds caused it to rekindle. The fire was contained at around 3 pm and had burned just over 3 acres.
Then, at around 7 pm, departments were called back because a hollow tree was burning inside and there were various hot spots.
Of the two structures on the property, an old camp house was lost to the blaze.
