At 3:25 this morning, a Jasper County Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on FM 363 in Kirbyville on a vehicle that wasn't displaying a license plate.
The vehicle was described as a silver Ford Taurus. When the stop was initiated, the driver failed to stop and a pursuit began. The chase went into Newton County and into Bon Wier where it ended near County Road 4075 and County Road 4070 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and bailed out on foot.
The Deputy and a Kirbyville PD officer caught the suspect who was found to be in possession of marijuana and a clear crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamines.
The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Ralph Borrego, of Merryville, Louisiana.
Borrego was charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle (F3) and Possession of a Controlled Substance (SJF). He was transported to the Jasper County Jail. Borrego is considered innocent unless proven guilty on a court of law.
Sheriff Chuck Havard said that he would like to thank the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the Kirbyville Police Department and the Newton Police Department for their assistance.
