Do you know what your child is accessing online?

With all the apps and websites bombarding children at every turn, parents need to be aware of the dangers that are out there targeting children online.


'Enough is Enough' is an  organization committed to making the Internet safe for children and families.The following is an excerpt from their website:

"Bark, which provides online monitoring tools that alert parents and caregivers to potential online dangers, processed 5.6 billion activities in 2023 on family accounts across texts, email, YouTube, and 30+ apps and social media platforms. Here's what they found (Bark 2023 Annual Report): 

  1. Self-harm/suicide 33% of tweens/57% of teens were involved in a self-harm/suicidal situation.

  2. Sexual content 58% of tweens/75% of teens encountered nudity or content of a sexual nature..

  3. Anxiety 19% of tweens/36% of teens used language or were exposed to language about anxiety

  4. Drugs/alcohol 58% of tweens/77% of teens engaged in conversations surrounding drugs/alcohol

  5. Bullying 67% of tweens/76% of teens experienced bullying as a bully, victim, or witness.

  6. Depression 26% of tweens/38% of teens engaged in conversations about depression

  7. Disordered eating 9% of tweens/21% of teens engaged with or encountered content about disordered eating

  8. Predators 8% of tweens/10% of teens encountered predatory behaviors from someone online

  9. Violence 68% of tweens/82% of teens expressed or experienced violent subject matter/thoughts.


According to a study conducted in November and December 2021 and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, one in six people surveyed were victims of online child sexual abuse before the age of 18.


These statistics are alarming, but with dedication, the effects can be limited, once you know what you're looking for.

Be vigilant and find out what your child is accessing for their own safety.
