The East End Volunteer Fire Department, The Department of Public Safety and Jasper County Sheriff's Department were called out to a one-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 63, west of Jasper, that occurred early Thursday morning.
The DPS investigation indicates that at approximately 2:20 a.m., a 2004 Ford Ranger was traveling west and somehow traveled off the road, rolled onto its side, and struck a tree.
The driver, 20-year-old Nathan Self of Burkeville, was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
East End VFD Firefighters assisted Allegiance EMS with loading the patient. In a Facebook post, an East End VFD spokesperson said, "We would like to give a huge shout-out to Deputy Coons with Jasper County Sheriffs office. Before our arrival, Deputy Coons applied a tourniquet and was helping the patient before EMS was on the scene. These skills of applying tourniquets and stop the bleed are very valuable and good for life-saving measures".
