Another day of wildfires in Newton County - burn ban violators are being given citations


At 12:58 pm Thursday, Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Department as well as Newton VFD were called out for mutual aid to assist Bon Wier VFD on a woods fire located at CR 4070 off of FM 1416. The cause of the fire is unknown.


Trout Creek responded with 2 trucks and 4 firemen. Bon Wier had 3 firemen and 1 truck.


Trout Creek VFD Chief Jamie Bragg said that at 1:02 pm, just a few minutes after the initial call, Trout Creek VFD was also called to a grass fire on FM 82 East. Kirbyville VFD was called for Mutual Aid. About half an acre burned .


Kirbyville had 2 trucks and 4 men. Trout Creek had 3 men and 3 trucks. The cause of fire is unknown.


Bragg advises the public to abstain from burning anything in Newton County as they are already giving out citations due to the burn ban that went into effect this week.
