Three rescues were made at Big Cow Creek on Wednesday after major rains and flooding.
According to Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby, the first was a helicopter rescue of the driver of an 18 wheeler who attempted crossing over the high water and was swept away. His vehicle was a total loss.
Burby went on to say that the second man was attempting to cross the bridge by foot to check on family members when he was overcome by the current. Rescue workers found him clinging to a tree and were able to get him out safely by boat.
The third individual fell out of a boat while trying to locate the man who was pulled away in the current and was he successfully rescued as well.
As of Thursday morning Big Cow Creek continues to be out of banks and Hwy 87 & Hwy 363 still remain closed.
